Put your mind in a meditative state. And just focus on your breathing. My name is Miryam Lumpini and I go by the Witch Doctor which is my tattoo artist alter ego. My advice for finding a good tattoo artist
is first of all finding someone that you vibe with artistically. You feel a connection between the artwork and the artist. My specialty is to work with colors. I want colors to look very bright on the skin. I was born in Stockholm, Sweden but I grew up outside of Gothenburg with my single mother on the Swedish countryside. We had a lot of animals around. A lot of nature, forests, and I think that’s part of my inspiration. Just expressing kind of what I come from. My mom as a single mother really empowered me to be myself and do me. (speaking Swedish) That means color is my superpower. I need to go back to Sweden. (laughing) I have followed Miryam’s work for a couple of years and it didn’t really occur to me that I would get a tattoo from her. A lot of my inspiration also comes from different cultures. I went to a Tibetan buddhist school called Naropa and I lied in Nepal and India for a period of time. During that time, I resonated with the Green Tara in Tibetan Buddhism. And she’s the emanation of professed compassion. And I am right handed, so I wanted to have her brought on my right arm so that when I bring actions into the world, that I’m bringing the energy of compassion into all of my actions. With my style I like to work with a lot of contrast and depth. Sometimes I use freehand. Sometimes I use stencil. Sometimes I use smooth shadings, rough shadings, textures. Once that process is done, we sit down and I pour out the ink and then we go. I think pain is a process that I appreciate. It’s something that I don’t necessarily seek out, but when it has a purpose it really can transform us. When we’re done, we hug each other. Sometimes they cry, you know when I put that last white detail. That’s usually the most painful part. They be like— (screaming) And then it’s like, “We did it!” And then we dance around or celebrate that we did it. I guess my favorite part is how magical that she looks and that Miryam was able to create that perfectly. Thank you guys so much for watching. If you want to watch more videos, click here.
