North Texas Police Department Relaxes Tattoo Policy To Keep, Attract Officers

SECRECY AGREEMENT. HER NEW BOOK WAS PUBLISHED BY AN OWNER OF CBS. RECRUITING POLICE OFFICERS ACROSS NORTH TEXAS CAN BE QUITE THE CHALLENGE THESE DAYS, BUT NOW THE POLICE ADMINISTRATORS IN IRVING SAY THEY HAVE IMPLEMENTED NEW POLICY THAT SHOULD HELP THEM ATTRACT AND MAINTAIN CANDIDATE WHOSE LIKE TO SHOW A LITTLE PERSONAL EXPRESSION. THE STORY IS ALL NEW AT 4:00. I HAVE MY DAUGHTER’S NAME, AND HER FOOTPRINTS. OFFICER ZACHARY JONES IS ONE OF THE MOST RECENT ADDITIONS TO THE IRVING POLICE DEPARTMENT. AND, AS YOU CAN TELL, HE LIKES HIS TATTOOS. AND I WANT TO ADD MY BADGE NUMBER INSIDE MY ARM SOMEWHERE. AND WHEN HE DOES, HE WON’T HAVE TO HIDE IT. A NEW POLICY NEW IN EFFECT — NOW IN EFFECT NO LONGER RIVERS OFFICERS TO COVER UP THEIR TATTOOS ON THEIR ARMS AND THE LEGS. THE POLICY WAS NEEDED MAINLY TO HELP RECRUITMENT EFFORTS. YOU GO DO OUR RECRUITING EVENTS, YOU GO TO OUR ENTRANCE EXAMS WHEN WE GIVE OUR CIVIL SERVICE TEST, 60% TO 70% OF EVERYBODY COMING THROUGH THE DOOR THESE DAYS HAVE SOME FORM OF ART WORK. HE SAYS THE NORMALS IN SOCIETY ARE MUCH MORE ACCEPTING TATTOOS AND ONCE A TABOO ISSUE COULDN’T KEEP OFFICERS FROM BEING HIRED. WE HIRE PEOPLE BATESED UPON THEIR CHARACTER, INTEGRITY, BASED UPON THEIR ABILITY TO DO THE JOB WE TRAIN THEM TO DO. THE CHIEF SAYS IRVING P.D. HAS ABOUT 350 OFFICERS AND LOSES UP TO 30 OF THEM EVERY YEAR BECAUSE OF RETIREMENT. HE IS HOPING THIS MOVE, WHICH IS BEING PUB LA SIZED ACROSS — PUBLICIZED ACROSS SOCIAL MEDIA, NOT ONLY BRINGS IN NEW RECRUITS, BUT THOSE WHO ARE ALREADY ON THE FORCE. TATTOOS DOESN’T CHANGE THE PROFESSIONALISM OF THE MAN OR THE WOMAN ANSWERING THAT CALL FOR SERVICE. IT GIVES ME EXPRESSION TO ALLOW ME TO EXPRESS MYSELF OR HOW OTHERS FEEL. I THINK IT BRINGS US MORE TO THE COMMUNITY, JUST ALLOWING US TO KNOW THAT WE ARE HUMANS, TOO, AND IT IS SOMETHING THAT I LIKE. THE POLICY IS LIMITED TO THE ARMS AND THE LEGS. TAKE TOOS ON THE FACE AND THE NECK ARE STILL NOT ALLOWED — TATTOOS ON THE FACE AND THE NECK ARE STILL NOT ALLOWED. CERTAINLY AN ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF THE CHANGING TIMES AND THE FACT THAT A TATTOO DOES NOT NECESSARILY HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH THE PERSONAL’S ABILITY TO
